“Awards and a symbolic farewell for our NJROTC Cadets!

On April 23, 2018, the annual NJROTC Award and Change of Command Ceremony was held in the Clark gymnasium and it the most important day in our NJROTC unit. The Ceremony is held toward the end of each year to award our Cadet who demonstrated dedication and outstanding effort. The ceremony also sees the change of command to next year’s Battalion Commander, Battalion Executive Officer and Battalion Command Master Chief, and a symbolic goodbye the seniors in our unit. Over 30 medals, certificates and ribbons came from various organization such as American Legion and Sons of American Revolution was given to our cadets.

A special award was given tonight – Cadet Commander Tia Kolakowski (12), our outgoing Battalion Commander, earned appointment to the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), one of the top colleges in the nation. It is a honor to have a Cadet from our unit attending the USAFA, something that don’t happen very often. The Cadet of the Year (COY) and Petty Officer of the Year (POY) awards were also announced. The COY is Cadet Seaman Fernando Victoria, and the the POY is Cadet Petty Officer 2nd Class Magnus Yuen.

The new top three for next year will be Cadet Commander Eva Fierro, Cadet Lieutenant Commander Yaneli Pedro, and Cadet Command Master Chief Petty Officer Savannah Moore, who will assume the duties of the NJROTC’s top student leaders and continue to bring prosperity to our unit.

Thirty-four seniors walked through the sword arch as a symbol that they are graduating from our unit, and it is a sad and emotional night for our Cadets as we are reminded they are leaving Clark very soon. As this year comes to an end, we look forward to next year, in which new cadets will join our unit.

Good luck to Cadets who are graduating will start a new page of their life.”
